Mothers Are Special

By Keith Bellamy

Abraham Lincoln once said, "All that I am, or can be, I owe to my angel mother." John Gray said, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." Napoleon Bonaparte said, "Let France have good mothers, and she will have good sons." And how about this Spanish proverb -- "An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy."

We notice in 2 Timothy 1:5, “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” Likewise, I can say that I am reminded of my faith which first lived in my great-grandmother, Annie, my grandmother Lois, my grandmother Emma and my mother Geneva.

You see --their legacy goes on.

However, there comes a time when I must stand on my own faith. Neither my great grandmother’s, my grandmother’s nor my sainted mother’s faith assures me of a place in heaven. My faith in Jesus does.

Mothers are special though! There is hardly a day that goes by that I don’t think of my mother. She’s been with the Lord for over seventeen years now.

So, we hope you use this Sunday to celebrate your mother’s life. If she is still living, tell her you love her. And then give God the glory from Whom all good things come.

Thinking You’re Something

By Keith Bellamy

I remember a man who thought he was really something. By that I mean he thought the whole world should revolved around him. Everything in his life was about himself.

The Apostle Paul said Christians were not to think of themselves that way. He wrote this in Romans 12:3. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

I remember reading about Herod Agrippa in Acts 12. He was so much in love with himself that he wore gold so people could see him and worship him. God caused him to have a giant stomach ache and he died!

Why do we think that God would not do that today?

Could it be that the problem you are having is your wake-up call?

Will you pay attention to it?

GOD’S INTERVENTION

By Keith Bellamy

God has intervened in my life on more than one occasion. When my wife came into my life, I did not realize then what I know now…how God was involved in our relationship even then. And there are other times. Fifty years ago, there would have been bets against my ever being a preacher. I was a great hypocrite. I wasn't really following the Lord…and I certainly wasn't staying focused on His Will.

Have you found yourself in that situation? Let me assure you--it is not too late. It is not too late for God to intervene in your life, if you will let Him!

There are examples in the New Testament of those who experienced God’s intervention. Saul of Tarsus (who we know as the Apostle Paul) is one of those. He was going to Damascus to arrest more Christians and he thought he was doing right. And then the Lord stopped him. I am glad Paul followed the Lord’s directions. We would have a smaller New Testament if Paul had not let Ananias baptize him (Acts 22:16)!

I can think of others in whose lives the Lord has intervened, and so many of them have come to Jesus, and the church is better because of the Lord’s intervention.

After all…it’s all about Him, isn’t it?

Please remember Romans 8:28: “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (NASV).
